David Cameron backs Jedward

With all that hoo-hah over the Lisbon Treaty hogging the headlines this week, it’s no wonder Tory leader David “call me Dave” Cameron is looking for a little mindless diversion. He’s clearly found solace in this year’s X Factor – and is backing “terrible twins” John and Edward Grimes to go all the way.

“You only need to watch a few minutes and suddenly 40 minutes later, you’re still nailed to your chair, waiting for the terrible twins to appear,” honked Dave in an interview. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, he’s on one-time dinner chum Simon Cowell’s side in the Saturday night TV war, admitting he prefers the show to Strictly.

Oh, and guess what? Dave’s arch-nemesis, PM Gordon Brown, is an X Factor man too. “I’m a fan,” he recently admitted, “and Peter Mandelson looks after Strictly Come Dancing.”

Thankfully Jedward haven’t been following suit and making pronouncements on the state of the economy or immigration policy. Instead they’ve been busy concentrating on this weekend’s movie-themed X Factor, on which they’ll be belting out a version of Ray Parker Jr’s ‘Ghostbusters’ in their own inimitable style.

“Brian [Friedman, the show’s choreographer] has been working out if it’s possible for Cowell to appear as a ghostly figure on stage or weather someone can float onstage with a Cowell mask on,” said a source. “The boys, dressed as Ghostbusters, will then exterminate the figure.”

Honestly, there are no words.
